This book by Jay Sherwood chronicles the final part of Frank Swannell’s career of surveying for the British Columbia government. The story begins in 1929, the first year of the Great Depression, and ends in 1939, just before the onset of World War II. As in his first two books, Sherwood peppers his narrative with excerpts from Swannell’s journals and highlights the best of the surveyor’s photographs. This book features some of the colourful characters Swannell worked with in the north.
