ABCLS Foundation Awards & Scholarships

BRITISH COLUMBIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

(New!) 2010/2011 BC Land Surveyors Foundation Scholarship:  $1,500
The BC Land Surveyors Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a student going into the second year of the BCIT Geomatics Bachelor of Technology degree program based on achievement in the first year of the degree program.  The award is presented in November at the annual Scholarship and Awards ceremony.

BC Land Surveyors Foundation Bursary:  $1,000
The BC Land Surveyors Foundation Bursary is awarded to a student registered in the Geomatics Engineering Technology program who demonstrates financial need. BCIT selects recipients by mid-February and sends a cheque directly to the student together with details of the organization providing the funds.

BC Land Surveyors Foundation Gerry Andrews Memorial Award:  $1,500
This endowment was established in 1996 and the annual interest provides an award for a student enrolled in the second year of the Geomatics program, based on his/her achievement in first year. The award is presented in November at the annual Scholarship and Awards ceremony.

BC Land Surveyors Foundation Ray Chapman Memorial Award:  $1,000
This endowment was established in 2007 and the annual interest will fund a First Year Achievement Award for a student in the BCIT Geomatics Bachelor of Technology degree program. The award is presented in November at the annual Scholarship and Awards ceremony.

BC Land Surveyors Foundation W.N. Papove Sr. Memorial Award:  $1,000
This endowment was established in 2007 and the annual interest will fund a First Year Achievement Award for a student registered in the BCIT Geomatics Engineering Technology diploma program. The award is presented in November at the annual Scholarship and Awards ceremony.

UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY

BC Land Surveyors Foundation H. R. Goldfinch Memorial Award:  $1,000
In 1997, the BCLS Foundation entered into an agreement with the Victoria Foundation to establish a fund for the H.R. Goldfinch Memorial Award. This is awarded annually to a student entering his/her fourth year of Geomatics Engineering. Eligible recipients must be enrolled in ENGI 579 and ENGO 500 in their final year and have selected a topic dealing with cadastral land studies for the ENGO project. Preference is given to students who completed their secondary schooling in BC. The University of Calgary requires that the funds be sent to them no later than June 30.

BC Land Surveyors Foundation Award: $1,000
This BC Land Surveyors Award is awarded annually to a student who has completed secondary schooling in British Columbia and is entering third or fourth year in the Department of Geomatics Engineering. The award will be based on academic merit and the candidate must have attained a grade point average of not less than 2.60 in the previous academic year. To be eligible, recipients must be a member or student of the Association of BC Land Surveyors, or be enrolled in Engineering 500 in the fourth year and have selected a topic dealing with cadastral land studies.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK

BC Land Surveyors Foundation UNB Scholarship:  $1,000
This scholarship established in 2007 will be awarded annually to a Fredericton campus student who has completed at least the minimum requirements for the first year of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Geodesy and Geomatics) degree program. Preference will be given to students from British Columbia or students who are registered students of the Association of BC Land Surveyors . Selection will be based on academic achievement. This scholarship is also open to transfer students.

Regional Group Scholarship Awards

BC Land Surveyors – Northern Group – $2,000 and $1,000 each
These awards are awarded to Northern Lights College students enrolled full-time in the Geomatics Engineering Technology Program at the Fort St. John campus.  They are presented to students enrolled in a full course load, with the highest and second highest academic standing at the end of Term 1.

BC Land Surveyors – Vancouver Island Group – $1,500 each
These awards are awarded to BCIT Geomatics Engineering Technology students based on a combination of high academic standing, leadership, service and all-round performance in the first year. Additionally, first preference is given to students from Vancouver Island.

BC Land Surveyors – Lower Mainland Group – $500 each
One award is presented to a graduate of the Geomatics diploma program.
One award is presented to a graduate of the Geomatics degree program.
Both awards are presented each June.

Additional Scholarships and Bursaries

Bennett & Associates – $1,000
Two scholarships of $1,000 each for BCIT.  Most Improved Student – selected by the faculty.  One for first  year students, and one for second year students.

Focus Corporation
University of New Brunswick – Geomatics Degree Program – $2,200
University of Calgary – Geomatics Degree Program (Jim Van Dam Sponsorship) – $2,000

Geo Bedwell Memorial Award
In 1997, an endowment fund was established in remembrance of a formal BCIT Faculty Member, George Bedwell.  The annual interest is used to provide an award for a student in second year of the Geomatics program, based on his/her achievement, service and leadership in first year. 

Keith Wagner Memorial Bursary
In 1980, an endowment fund was established in remembrance of Keith Wagner.  The annual interest is used to support a Geomatics Student with the financial cost of school.  The student must complete a bursary and need the financial assistant.

Kenneth K. Wong Scholarship
One half of the Kenneth K. Wong Scholarship is for BCIT.  The BCIT scholarship will be awarded to a student in the Geomatics Technology Surveying Program, with the highest overall academic standing in second year, who is enrolled in third year and who applies for the scholarship.

One half of the Kenneth K. Wong Scholarship is for the University of Calgary.  The U of C scholarship will be awarded to a student in the Geomatics Engineering program, with the highest overall academic standing in third year, who is enrolled in final year and who applies for the scholarship.

Matson, Peck & Topliss – $1,000
Annual bursary for students at BCIT Geomatics department.  Student must be in the diploma program.  This bursary is in memory of Bob Peck.  This bursary is given to a second year student graduating from a successful first year.  Award is based on academic achievement and leadership qualities

McElhanney Associates Land Surveying Ltd. – $1,000
$1,000 BCIT scholarship
Student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, enrolled at BCIT in GIS, Geomatics or Civil or Structural Engineering Technology programs.  Student must be entering second or third year studies and achieving a minimum average grade of 75%.  Student must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the community or in the area of all-round achievement.

McElhanney Associates Land Surveying Ltd. – $2,500
Annual scholarship to the University of Calgary.   This is awarded to a student entering fourth year in the Department of Geomatics Engineering.  The award is based on academic merit.  Preference is given to students who demonstrate an interest in cadastral studies by being enrolled in both ENGO 500 (with a topic in cadastral studies) and ENGO 579.  Demonstrated leadership ability and innovative skills are taken into consideration.
