100th Anniversary Presentation to SLSA
President Richard Wey (R) presenting the ABCLS gift to Dave Gurnsey (L), outgoing President (SLSA)
To commemorate the first 100 years of the Saskatchewan Land Surveyors Association, the ABCLS commissioned Harry Hickman (BCLS) to create a wooden gavel, striking plate, and storage box. For the gavel, Harry used wood from a Garry oak tree that had been cut down by his father 35 years ago on Protection Island, the smaller of the two islands in Nanaimo Harbour.
Richard Wey presented the ABCLS gift to the Saskatchewan Land Surveyors on Friday, March 26, 2010 in Regina at the Saskatchewan AGM.

Mapper of Mountains:
M.P. Bridgland in the Canadian Rockies, 1902-1930
The University of Alberta Press recently published the Mapper of Mountains book written by Ian MacLaren.
Mapper of Mountains follows the career of Dominion Land Surveyor Morrison Parsons Bridgland, who provided the first detailed maps of many regions of the Canadian Rockies. Between 1902 and 1930, this unheralded alpinist perfected phototopographical techniques to compile a series of mountaintop photographs during summers of field work, and spent his winters collating them to provide the Canadian government, tourists, and mountain climbers with accurate topographical maps.
Latest book in UAP’s new Mountain Cairns Series.
ISBN 0-88864-456-6, $39.95 CDN, 312 pages, biography.
